what is cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrencies are digital assets that use cryptography and distributed ledgers to record ownership and transfer. Wallets usually do not "hold coins" but hold private keys or recovery information that can control assets on the chain. Different currencies, chains and tokens have different uses, supply rules, handling fees and risks.

Checklist for this step
  • Distinguish between the three concepts of "asset name", "network where it is located" and "wallet address"; they are not the same thing.
  • Read the official information and risk description of the project, and avoid judging based solely on social media popularity.
  • Understand that on-chain transfers generally cannot be reversed once confirmed.
